The Gut-Brain and Nervous System Correlation: 

Our nervous systems begin to form at the moment of conception, and support us autonomically (without our thinking about it) throughout our lives.  Our nervous systems, just like our consciousness’s, hold memory, often beyond conscious awareness.  

When a pattern has become disruptive, the body may communicate to us know that something needs to be addressed by way of symptoms. When this occurs, therein lies the opportunity to become aware of, work with and update our systems in service to bringing resolution, and to embody a greater state of whole body wellness.  

For greater context…

When the nervous system responds to threat, the body’s natural response is to pause digestion, in order to respond.  This prepares the body to go into a fight, flight, freeze or fawning response, which is a natural response to stress.  

If the stress or outside challenge becomes chronic, the body can adopt patterns that disrupt processes which include but are not limited to the digestive process.  Examples of symptoms that disrupt the digestive process can include: 

  • IBS
  • Frequent emptying of itself
  • Bloating, discomfort
  • Constipation

How does Somatic Experiencing fit in? 

When the nervous system experiences chronic stress, overwhelm or trauma, it can get stuck in fight-flight-freeze-fawn responses.  Using the body’s inherent wisdom, Somatic Experiencing works to address trauma and stress, and to resolve patterns that have been stored in the body as stress. 

Somatic Experiencing recognizes that these survival responses can be repatterned and greater regulation and coherence is possible.   Over time, as patterns within the nervous system shift, people may experience an enhanced capacity to be present with life’s experiences—both pleasant and challenging—along with relief from symptoms that have been stored in the body as stress. This is often done by enhancing body awareness, tracking sensations, learning nervous system regulation techniques, following the wisdom of the body, and allowing stress responses to complete that were formerly interrupted.

This is a 4 month program where you will:  

Learn to partner with your body, and to allow the wisdom of the body to lead the way to wellness

Develop awareness of underlying patterns that have accumulated over time, and are contributing to your symptoms

Learn nervous system regulation techniques that can: 

  • Increase instances of rest and digest, ie; safety
  • Expand your capacity to handle stress and be resilient through life’s challenges
  • Increase your capacity to experience wellness and/or to take risks towards what you want

Learn powerful tools that assist you to… 

  • Learn daily stress managment techniques
  • Become aware of underlying patterns that link to and contribute to your symptoms
  • Create habits that support resolution within your system
  • Open the doors to healing and change

Experience instances of resolution in your system: 

  • For example:  If there has been a pattern of stuffing down a feeling rather than expressing it.  The energy of this emotion has the opportunity to move through the system differently – instead of stuffing down the feeling, it has the opportunity to come up and out.  As a result, the client experiences a release/ie; freedom from that energy pattern.  
  • Resolution occurs, and in this way, a new neuropathway begins to form and your system learns a new and more effective way of responding/doing things.
