What is Somatic Experiencing?

Somatic Experiencing is a modality that encourages regulation in the central nervous system by working with and assisting resolution of accumulated stress responses such as fight, flight, freeze or fawn, and into greater states rest and digest associated with well-being.  Somatic Experiencing is based off of the work of Peter Levine.

It recognizes that our nervous system health greatly impacts our day to day experience.

It is a body-oriented therapeutic model applied in a variety of professional settings including but not limited to psychotherapy, medicine and coaching, on a multidisciplinary intersection of physiology, psychology, ethology, biology, neuroscience, indigenous healing practices, and medical biophysics, according to Somatic Experiencing International. 

What can Somatic Experiencing do? 

This resolution can lead to increased resiliency, more instances of rest and digest, greater ease, the ability to be more present with all of life.  When our nervous systems have more capacity, we often experience the ability to take risks and experience stress while also having an increased capacity for rest, ease and joy.
